Reiki
WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is one of the most powerful, efficient and effective types of healing. It is a perfect self-help system that adjusts to the user whether you are a newcomer to the inner world, a hard headed intellectual, a body oriented yoga expert, a housewife or spiritual devotee. Reiki quite simply but ever powerfully reconnects us with prana, the long-forgotten but all pervading life force energy and teaches us how to love ourselves again.
For some, reiki is one of many forms of energy mastery, for others it is a complimentary healing modality and still for others it is a powerful meditation technique.
Every form of life energy has its own identity or individuality, its own characteristics, but they are all made of the same fundamental material. Called “prana” in India, “elan vital” in Europe, “chi” in China, “orgone” by William Reich in the USA and “ki” in Japan (just to mention a few of its names), reiki is the energy that pervades everything sentient and insentient.
Reiki is an ancient form of healing. It heals in an all-encompassing way, balancing mind, body and spirit. Many years ago, reiki was used as system of holistic healing and deep meditation in Tibet. Unfortunately, because this little known practice was only passed on by word of mouth, in time it had all but disappeared. In the mid-19th Century, however, it was rediscovered by a Christian monk, Dr Mikao Usui, who devoted his life to finding a form of healing that worked and could be systematically passed on to others. Reiki works fairly rapidly and highly effectively on specific areas of the body where injury or disease is present, normally with astounding results. Effecting a deep sense of relaxation, reiki will help to release blocked energy, cleansing the physical body of all toxins. On a mental and emotional level, reiki refines old, entrenched thought-forms, so that trauma and unhelpful beliefs or negative attitudes are rapidly dissolved.
WHAT DOES REIKI MEAN?
Reiki is a Japanese word. REI meaning “The invisible force of all essence” and KI meaning “That which creates, sustains and nurtures all living things”.
THE USE OF SYMBOLS IN REIKI
Reiki is the science of energy based on the language of symbols and is related to a number of similar types of universal energy sciences from India and Tibet. Symbols play a crucial role in the influencing of one’s own body for one’s own benefit or for the well being of another who is experiencing negative conditions. Realising that psychological problems have direct influence upon one’s body temple, Tibetan Masters developed ways to correct negative states of mind and made Sanskrit symbols to remind people of the divine power ever present in their daily lives. Other uses for the symbols include protection, balance, success, power, increased vitality, healing, increasing happiness, aiding in meditation, sending prayers and absent healing.
INITIATION INTO REIKI
Initiation into reiki does not necessarily instantly transform you into a great healer, wealthy businessman or luminous being. It simply enhances and brings into awareness the best in you, intensifies your capabilities, and shows you what parts of your life have not yet been integrated or healed
Anyone can be initiated to become a channel for these pranic healing energies via the reiki Path within a day or two. No skill and no special preparations or degrees are necessary. Reiki is our birthright or, as I prefer to call it my divine inheritance. Once initiated into reiki, a person remains a reiki channel throughout his or her lifetime, even if it isn’t put to use. Of course, daily practice deepens understanding of the universal life force and also helps us to become a clear channel for it. There is no philosophy or religion attached to it. It is pure energy! It can easily be combined with more orthodox medicine, as well as with other forms of alternative healing or with relaxation methods.
